Two Maoists Including A Woman Were Killed In An Encounter With Security Forces In Chhattisgarh

Guwahati: In an encounter with the security forces, two Maoists including a woman were killed today morning along the border of Dantewada-Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh.

The encounter took place at around 5 AM in a forest in Gonderas village between the Maoists and a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF). It has been reported that the joint team was out on an anti-Maoist operation.

Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) and Superintendent of Dantewada, Abhishek Pallav said that the Maoists fired at them when they were moving through the forest located along the border of Dantewada-Sukma districts leading to an exchange of fire.

The security forces have recovered an Insas rifle and a 12 bore gun from the encounter site.

The only all-female DRG platoon in Dantewada, Danteshwari Ladake also took part in the encounter. Thirty women including the female Maoists and the wives of the Maoists who have surrendered have been recruited in the platoon.

However, all security personnel are reported to be safe.

On May 1, fifteen jawans of C-60, an anti-Maoist squad of Gadchiroli police and a driver were killed in a powerful landmine blast at Dadapur Road in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra.

The explosion occurred when the jawans were out on an operation this afternoon. The group triggered the blast when the two vehicles of the security forces were passing through the Dadapur Road towards Korchi.

Many jawans were also injured in the incident. According to sources, the attack is said to be the revenge for the encounters conducted by the commando unit in the region last year in which 40 Maoist cadres were killed.

The blast occurred at around 12.30 pm hours after Maoists torched at least three dozen vehicles belonging to private contractors in Kurkhedu sub-district of Gadchiroli.

The vehicles which have been targeted by the Maoists were engaged in construction works for the Purada-Yerkad sector of National Highway 136 near Dadapur village.
