NEW DELHI: Underworld don Rajendra Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
Rajan, 61, is lodged in the high-security Tihar prison in New Delhi since his arrest after deportation from Bali, Indonesia, in 2015.
He complained of stomach ache following which he was admitted to the hospital.
All the criminal cases pending against him in Mumbai were transferred to the CBI and a special court was constituted to try them.
In 2018, Rajan was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2011 murder case of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
He was admitted to AIIMS in April after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Jailed underworld don Rajendra Nikalje popularly known as Chhota Rajan tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday after which he was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment.
Chhota Rajan is one of the most heavily guarded prisoners in the Tihar Jail who is kept in solitary confinement in one of the biggest cells in the jail. Since he is not allowed to interact with any other prisoners, the jail officials suspect that he might have caught the virus from an asymptomatic jail officer.
The fact that a dreaded criminal like Rajan is receiving VIP treatment in one of the best medical facilities in the country while lakhs of common Indians are struggling to get an ICU bed, oxygen cylinder, and other medicines did not sit well with many netizens who displayed their displeasure in social media platforms.
