NAGPUR: Man from Nashik, Nagpur identified as a 27-year-old engineer, Umesh Patel, got arrested for allegedly snatching chains and purchasing a flat and a car he got from the chains.

According to reports, Patel was disappointed with his regular salary from his job as an engineer. The police arrested him for as many as 56 cases of chain snatching committed by him. 

He started working under a contractor after finishing his graduation in engineering, but the disappointment with the amount of money he got from his job, he took the path of crimes and began snatching chains to turn his fortunes around. 

Patel even partnered with another man identified as, Tushar Dhikle in 2020 and was part of 20 chain snatching cases. In 2021, Patil himself single-handedly performed 36 chain snatching and was later arrested. He was arrested on 21st October, police followed him while he was out searching for his next victim.

While during a search of the accused's residence police found that it contained Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and 27 gold chains. It's conceivable that he was holding off on selling these chains until gold prices rose. 

In a recent similar incident in Pune, two miscreants ran out of luck and were caught by the police for allegedly snatching chains. While during the search a total of seven gold chains were recovered along with a bike worth rupees nine lakhs. Nearly 550 CCTV camera footage was checked between Kondhwa and Baramati regions, Pune, Maharashtra. The city police crime branch revealed that both the suspects (aged 28 and 31 years) are from Nashik road and Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district.
