Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to impose a night curfew across the state to control the spread of the new covid variant - Omicron strain.
This night curfew will begin from 25 December, from 11 pm to 5 am.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting where he instructed government officials to restrict the total number of people attending public events like marriages to 200.
Also, the organizers of the events have been mandated to inform the local administration about it and they must strictly adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.
The CM's order also said that all the traders have to follow the "no mask, no goods" policy at their respective establishments.
The officials have said that wearing masks for everyone on the streets or in the markets should be made mandatory and the police should carry out continuous patrols so as to ensure that the guidelines are not violated.
Adityanath also instructed the officials to ensure that people arriving in Uttar Pradesh from other states or even abroad are traced and tested for coronavirus.
He also added that extra vigilance should be maintained on bus terminals, railway stations and airports as these places pose a higher risk as compared to other places.
People coming from outside the state should be closely monitored after testing them and, if need be, should be admitted to hospitals or be quarantined, a senior official said.
India recorded its highest tally so far when it detected 122 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours thereby pushing the total tally in the country to 358 according to Union Health Ministry data updated on 24 December.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the Covid situation in the country and stressed the need to be cautious and vigilant.
The PM also asserted that the fight against the coronavirus pandemic is not yet over and highlighted the paramount importance of adhering to Covid guidelines.
