DEHRADUN: A car crashed into a 600-metre-deep gorge in the Munsiyari subdivision of Pithoragarh district today (June 22), killing at least nine persons and injuring two others. The police and the SDRF team are on the scene, according to Nilesh Bharne, IG Kumaon.

An SDRF team was rushed to the scene, but rescuers have yet to reach the victims in the canyon, according to Pithoragarh District Magistrate Rina Joshi.

According to Didihat SDM Anil Kumar Shukla, the tragedy happened about 7:30 a.m., when pilgrims from Sama village in Bageshwar district were on their way to Kokila Devi temple in Hokra. According to locals, heavy rains last night muddied the road, making only a portion of it safe to drive on.

On the other hand, recently, one person was killed and another guy was injured after the vehicle carrying them went off a road and plummeted into a gorge in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Siang district on Thursday. On Wednesday, the collision occurred 25 km from Likabali town on the Likabali-Basar-Aalo route, according to Likabali police station officer in charge Inspector Bisor Boje.

The vehicle was on its way from Likabali to Gensi. Tumi Doke, the vehicle's owner, died on the scene, while the driver, Ige Nada, was critically hurt, according to the police officer.

On 13 June, According to officials, four persons were killed and three others were critically injured after a tanker carrying methanol overturned near Lonavala on the Mumbai-Pune Motorway at around 11.40 a.m. on Tuesday.

The very combustible and hazardous chemical spilled caused a terrible inferno. According to a Pune Rural police official, the tragedy occurred on an overbridge near the hill station of Lonavala. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The police are investigating the ownership and operation of the tanker, which was moving on the 94-kilometer-long motorway from Pune to Mumbai.
