Dehradun: Uttarakhand has been experiencing severe floods after four days of heavy rainfall in the state.

As of Tuesday, the total death toll has gone up to 47, with 28 deaths reported in Nainital. Also, at least 11 people have been reported to have been missing.

The four days of heavy rainfall has resulted in landslides in several parts of the state and has also caused much damage to homes and roads.

On Wednesday, a national news portal reported that the Ranikhet and Almora areas in Uttarakhand have been totally cut off from the plains. Additionally, Ranikhet is reportedly running out of fuel and has reserved fuel only for emergencies. In several places, phone and internet connectivity has been disrupted.

The Nainital-Kaladhungi road which was previously blocked has now been reopened.

Fifteen teams of the National Disaster Response Force which had been deployed for rescue and relief operations have rescued over 300 people.

Amit Shah is likely to visit the state to take stock of the situation. 4 lakh compensation has been announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for the families of the deceased and 1.9 lakh compensation for those whose houses have been destroyed by the rain. The Chief Minister also sanctioned 10 crores to each district magistrate for relief purposes.

The Meteorological Department of India has predicted lesser rains from Wednesday.
