NEW DELHI: On Saturday 1 January, Manoj Sinha the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir informed that a high-level investigation has been ordered into the stampede incident at the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple.

In the stampede that took place at the shrine on Saturday morning, at least 12 persons were present at the shrine as devotees were brutally killed and over a dozen got severely injured. The incident occurred near the three-number gate outside the premises of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple at the top of the Trikuta mountains.

Manoj Sinha, the Lt Governor said he has discussed the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and told him about the stampede incident in brief. The Twitter handle of the Lt Governor office wrote that the honourable Prime Minister has assured to provide all the necessary help needed.

According to the official reports, Vaishno Devi Stampede during the time of New Year was caused due by the heavy rush of devotees in the temple who had visited the site with the purpose of paying homage and worshipping the Goddess marking the beginning of the New Year 2022.

The office of the Lt Governor Jammu and Kashmir tweeted in various tweets expressing sorrow at the loss of 12 lives because of the stampede that occurred at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple located at the hilltop of Jammu &Kashmir. Through the tweets, the Lieutenant Governor paid condolences to the family members of the deceased persons and offered prayers for the injured people.

He further stated that the incident has been discussed with Home Minister Amit Shah and a high-level inquiry has been directed over the stampede today.

According to Lt Governor of J&K, the inquiry will be headed by Principal Secretary (Home) with Additional director general of police (ADGP), Jammu and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu as members.

Sinha also made the major announcement that an amount of Rupees 10 lakh will be provided to the families of the twelve people who lost their lives in the stampede. Along with this, he announced that an amount of Rupees 2 lakh will be given to the injured people. He as a chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple said that the board will take responsibility regarding the cost of medical treatment of all injured.
