NEW DELHI: MP and screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad, the author of "RRR" and the father of well-known film director SS Rajamouli, is currently at work on a new book that will tell the tale of Lachit Borphukan, an Ahom general who lived in the seventeenth century. The first book of the series will be named "Brahmaputra: The Ahom Son Rises."

The novel, which will be published by Harper Colons Publishers India on May 30 and was co-authored by the screenwriter and navy officer-turned-espionage fiction author Kulpreet Yadav, who has written for blockbuster films.

Lachit falls in love with Princess Padmini, the daughter of Swargadeo Jayadhwaj Singha, the then-ruler of Ahom, and the action-romance tale begins. When the king learns of their relationship, he exiles Lachit from the city of Jorhat.

After a few days, an attack by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's armies on the capital of Ahom compels the king to sign a peace deal ceding some of his realm to the Mughals. The terms of the treaty, however, are not favourable for Lachit and his closest ally, Prince Chakradhwaj.

When a prince from an Ahoms-loyal nation convinces other smaller kings to rebel and invade the capital Jorhat, the issue only gets worse. A fight that could permanently alter the course of the Ahom kingdom is being defended by Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj.

The story's conclusion leaves the reader wondering if Lachit, Prince Chakradhwaj, and Princess Padmini would be able to put an end to the rebels, secede from the Mughals, and bring back the Ahoms' former splendour.

In addition to penning the plots for "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi," multi-award-winning writer Vijayendra Prasad is behind both of the "Baahubali" flicks that shattered box office records.

His co-author, retired from the Indian Coast Guard, Kulpreet Yadav, has published novels in a variety of subjects, including espionage, military history, and real crime. His most recent publication is "The Battle of Rezang La" (Penguin, 2021) and he resides in Mumbai.

The father of S.S. Rajamouli and a renowned blockbuster screenwriter, Kulpreet Yadav is a former navy officer who now writes spy novels. Together, they created the book that will be published on May 30 by HarperCollins Publishers India.
