Warangal: After almost five months of murdering 10 people, a local court in Warangal, Telangana has convicted a man and sentenced him to death. The convict, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, 24-years old, killed nine people in the month of May, to cover up a murder that he had committed earlier.
The story sounds similar to a common phrase – 'to hide a lie, a thousand lies are needed.'The first person Sanjay killed was his live-in partner. He killed her back in the month of March, and the other nine were murdered in the following months. The first murder was committed in Andhra Pradesh, the other nine murders were committed in Warangal, Telangana.
A video was produced during the prosecution where Sanjay was seen raping his live-in partner's 16-year-old daughter. The video was found on Sanjay's phone. The convict has been booked in a separate case for rape besides also facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The public prosecutor requested the court to consider this as a "rarest of rare" case and punish the convict with the death penalty. Sanjay, who is a native of Bihar, came to Warangal six years ago. He became close to a colleague's family who had migrated to Warangal from West Bengal.
The convict became intimate with one of the colleague's nieces, who lived with her three children. The woman noticed Sanjay moving with her teenage daughter and confronted him. However, Sanjay fooled her and promised to marry her. On March 6, both of them boarded a train to West Bengal, to get introduced to her family. But as the train reached West Godavari, Sanjay gave her buttermilk which had sleeping pills mixed with it. He then pushed her out of the moving train.
When he returned back alone, the relatives of the woman threatened him to file a police complaint. To cover up his murder, he killed them by first intoxicating them and then pushing them into a well one by one.
