WATCH | Union Minister V Muraleedharan's Convoy Attacked in West Bengal, CM Sonowal Condemns

West Midnapore: Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan's convoy was attacked by TMC goons on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, the incident took place in the Panchkhudi area of West Midnapore.

Meanwhile, the minister took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "TMC goons attacked my convoy in West Midnapore, broken windows, attacked personal staff. Cutting short my trip." Read more

On the other hand, condemning the attack, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote, "This is extremely unfortunate. Even a Central Minister is not safe now in Bengal. Strongly condemn the intimidation and violence perpetrated by the TMC. Democracy cannot be killed in such a manner. I urge all our karyakartas to stay strong."

It is to be mentioned here that the Union Minister of State was on his way to meet the families of BJP karyakartas and supporters who lost their lives in the incidents of violence unleashed by TMC goons post the Assembly elections results being announced.

The video shared by Muraleedharan showed a number of people surrounding his vehicle with sticks in their hands. They can be seen attacking the vehicles in the convoy of the BJP leader. While the driver attempts to reverse the car, attackers break the car's windowpane with a log of wood.

Speaking to the media, the Union Minister confirmed that the attack took place in front of the police who merely stood there like mute spectators. He said that the Mamata Banerjee government has turned a blind eye towards the unbridled violence that is being unleashed by her cadres in Bengal.

"TMC goons were involved in the attack. We will file a police complaint," he said.

Earlier this month, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Minister and prominent BJP leader, on Tuesday alleged that around 400 BJP workers and their families have reached Assam in order to escape the political violence allegedly unleashed upon them by TMC hoodlums in Bengal following TMC's landslide victory in the recently concluded 2021 West Bengal Vidhan Sabha elections.

So far, at least 12 people have died due to the political violence that has ignited parts of Bengal making it a hotbed for criminal activities like murder, violence, arson, destruction of property, and loot.
