171 candidates in 30 constituencies will fight it out for the 249-member West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Guwahati: All eyes will be on Nadigram as voting for Phase II of West Bengal elections 2021 begins at 7 AM on Thursday. A fierce big fight is expected in Nandigram where two-time Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee will lock horns with once her closest aide and confidant and now her closest rival and foe, Suvendu Adhikary, the sitting MLA of Nandigram.

Adhikary, a former TMC leader and West Bengal's former Transport Minister had joined the BJP in 2020 and became the arch rival and strongest opponent of Mamata Banerjee. Adhikary was a Member of Parliament from 2009-2016 from Tamluk Constituency but resigned mid-term.

Nandigram will see a seven cornered battle this time. The other candidates contesting from Nandigram are SK Saddam Hussain (Independent), Swapan Parua (Independent), Dipak Kumar Gayen (Independent), and Manoj Kumar Das (Socialist unity Centre of India {Communist}. Minakshi Mukherjee, of CPI (M), another strong candidate, is also contesting from the Nandigram seat.

The total number of polling stations set up in West Bengal is 10, 620.

Of the 171 candidates in the fray, 152 are male candidates and 19 are female candidates. The total number of voters in Phase II are 75, 95, 549.

Bankura is the constituency with the maximum number of candidates at 11, and Keshpur and Indus are the constituencies with the least number of candidates at 3.
