NEW DELHI: On Wednesday evening Wrestler Nisha Dahiya shared a video on Instagram where she revealed the truth behind the news that she had been shot dead in Sonepat, Haryana. It was earlier reported that she, her mother, and her brother were shot dead by unknown attackers at Sushil Kumar Wrestling Academy in Halalpur of Sonipat however Nisha says that it was fake news and she is absolutely fine.

In the video post on social media by Nisha Dahiya along with Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik she began by introducing herself and said she has come to Gonda, Uttar Pradesh to play senior nationals and the reports of her being shot is fake, she is alive. The video went viral and she had to issue this video as the fake news has been spreading speedily on social media and people started expressing shock and grief over the incident.

After a thorough investigation, the Sonipat police have confirmed that the victim in the incident of Sonipat is not medalist wrestler Nisha Dahiya but another Nisha, who is also a wrestler. They are two different people with the same name and same profession. Rahul Sharma, Sonipat Superintendent of Police said that medalist wrestler Nisha Dahiya is currently in an event and she belongs to Panipat and the shot dead Nisha Dahiya is not her.

The fake news that had widely spread says that Nisha and her brother were shot while they were returning from Sushil Kumar Wrestling Academy in Halalpur of Sonipat. Reports also say that Nisha's mother undergo severe injuries and was later hospitalized in PGI Hospital, Rohtak.

At the recent Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Nisha Dahiya has won medals in 65 kg wrestling under 23. On her winning Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday tweeted congratulating the wrestler and other winners of the event saying that their performance is special and will contribute to making wrestling more popular across the country.

PIT, Press Trust of India said that the incident is not fake however it is not about the under-13 world championship bronze medalist but a newcomer wrestler with the same name as Nisha who is being allegedly shot dead by a person named Pawan, who belongs from the same village as her. Pawan and one Sachin killed her and later attacked Nisha's mother and her brother.

The wrestling career of Nisha Dahiya has gone through many ups and downs as she was earlier banned in 2016 as she was tested positive for meldonium, a drug banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
