NEW DELHI: A wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh turns out to be a tragic incident after at least 13 people unknowingly fell into a well while attending a marriage ceremony.
The thirteen people include 6 girls and 7 women who lost their lives at the time of performing certain rituals of the wedding.
The incident took place on Wednesday 16 February in the Naurangiya Tola village which is in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The village falls under Nebua Naurangiya police station.
According to sources on Wednesday night the victims were enjoying the pre-wedding ceremony of Haldi. Some of the young girls, small children and married women were seated on the iron net which suddenly collapsed and fell into the well below.
All the thirteen people were immediately taken to the nearby hospital and the doctors later declared them as death.
The deceased people have been identified as Aarti of 10 years old Jyoti of 15 years old, Sundari of 15 years old, Pooja of 20 years old, one-year-old Pari, Radhika of 16 years old, Sashi Kala of 15 years old, Manu of 18 years old, Pooja of 19 years old, Pappi of 20 years old, Meera of 25years old, Mamta Devi of 35 years old and Shakuntala of 35 years old.
The dead remains were sent for post mortem report and further investigation has been initiated as informed by concerned officials.
Apart from the deceased 10 others were injured following the incident on Wednesday and they are sent to the hospital for treatment.
Officials informed that two of the individual in the accident are in critical condition as they sustained severe injuries and currently they are receiving medical aid.
Meanwhile, S Rajalingam the district magistrate informed that the families of all the people who died in the tragic incident will be provided with Rupees 4 lakh compensation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his grief over the sudden incident and the demise of 13 people. The PM paid his heartfelt condolences and prayed for the steady recovery of those injured.
The Chief Minister of the Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to conduct rescue operations and ensure the proper medical treatment to the people sustaining injuries in the incident.
