NEW DELHI: In what it could be the advent of the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic as over 9,000 Children test COVID-19 positive in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar.

According to reports, the Uddhav Thackeray government has taken note of the spike in cases among children and has directed the district administration to prepare a strategy to deal with it.

Meanwhile, Ahmednagar District Collector Rajendra Bhosale informed, "In April, below 18 years, a total of 7,607 have tested positive.. In the month of May, a total of 8,881 cases reported.. This translates to around 9.49% in April and in May 11.40%.. in the month of May, Minors below the age of 1yr- 85 cases reported.. age group between 1-10yr - 2694 tested positive.. from 11-18yrs age group - 6102 have tested positive.. total 8881 minors have tested positive to covid in Ahmednagar district.."

On the other hand, experts have suggested that the third wave will severely impact children. If the virus changes its course of nature, the children will be largely impacted.

Reports suggest that the virus has already impacted children across the country, in the second wave. With no vaccination available for children under 18, the fear of the virus continues to haunt people.

In Maharashtra's Sangli city, a COVID-19 ward is being prepared especially for children. Currently, five children are being treated here and the facility is being prepared for more patients.

Maharashtra was among the first states to be swept by the ferocious second wave of the coronavirus in India, which emerged in February, overwhelming hospitals and leaving patients and their families struggling to find treatment, medical oxygen, and drugs.
