4 Union Ministers To Visit Neighbouring Countries of Ukraine To Coordinate Evacuation Mission

New Delhi: In a bid to evacuate Indian students stuck in war-hit Ukraine, the Centre on Monday decided to send Union Minister Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and V K Singh to Ukraine's neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation mission and help students.

According to a report by PTI, these ministers will be going there as ''special envoys'' of India.

The decision was taken at high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra on Monday. Apart from these, discussions were held to increase cooperation with the neighboring countries of Ukraine with the aim of expediting the process of evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday launched an official Twitter handle 'Opganga Helpline' to help bring back Indians from Ukraine. The operation to bring back stranded Indians in Ukraine has been named 'Operation Ganga'.

India has already set up control rooms in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia so that Indians can be evacuated through Ukraine's border with these countries.

Notably, India did not participate in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) vote on Russia's attack on Ukraine, although it has welcomed Moscow and Kyiv's decision to hold talks on the Belarus border.

Two days before this, Russia had blocked a UN Security Council resolution on the Russian attack against Ukraine through veto. India, China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) did not participate in the voting for this resolution.
