68-year-old Priest in Kerala accused of sexually exploiting three 9-year-old girls

Ernakulam: In a shocking incident, a 68-year-old priest of Holy Cross Church allegedly booked for inappropriately touching three 9-year-old girls in Chendamangalam under Vadakkekara Police Station in Ernakulam, Kerela.

As per a media report, the vicar of Holy Cross Church in Chendamangalam identified as Father George Padayattil had sexually assaulted three 9 years last month. The matter came to light after a child welfare committee approached the local police in Kerela.

Police also informed that the incidents happened last month when the girls went to the priest’s meda to get his blessings after Sunday rites. As stated by the victim girls, the vicar allegedly touched them inappropriately during two such incidents.

Reports also state that after the vicar of Holy Cross Church took advantage of the girls, meanwhile, one of the victim girls narrated about the incident to one of their school teachers. Accordingly, the teacher informed the matter to the child welfare committee.

Later, the parents of the victim girls were informed about the matter. The victim girls also recorded their statement to the judicial magistrate under oath. The case was charged after that.

On the other hand, the accused vicar, Father Padayattil is reported absconding. He was booked under section 10 (Punishment for aggravated sexual assault) and section 11 (sexual harassment) of the POCSO Act.
