Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a 90-year-old woman was raped and brutally thrashed in New Delhi's Chhawla, Nazafgarh area on Monday (August 7).
As per the victim, she was waiting for her milkman at around 5 pm in the evening when the accused came up to her and told her that the milkman was not available and offered to take her to a place where she could buy milk.
The accused then took her to a farm where he raped her multiple times, she said.
The 90-year-old woman kept insisting that she was of his grandmother's age, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. She was assaulted brutally when she tried to resist and was raped not just once, but multiple times.
As per reports, the woman's cries for help soon drew the attention of people who were passing by who ran to help her. The caught the accused and informed the police.
The rape victim was bleeding profusely and was traumatized. Locals soon summoned her son and the woman was then taken for medical examination, which revealed that she had several bruises on her body -- especially on her private parts.
Taking note of the incident, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Sections 376 (Punishment for sexual assault) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and the accused has been arrested. He has been identified as 33-year-old Sonu who lives in the Rewla Khanpur village.
A Delhi Commission for Women team has been with the survivor ever since the incident came to light. DCW Chief Swati Maliwal and member Vandana Singh also met the survivor at her house in Chhawla.
