A teen girl raped by a 60-year-old gives birth, abandons baby

New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl from Delhi was allegedly raped by a 60-year-old man. On October 31, the 16-year-old girl delivered a baby on the terrace of her house without anyone's help and abandoned the baby near a shop far away from her house.

Some of the locals found the new-born and alerted the police. The police said they got a PCR call on October 31 to inform about a new-born baby.

Police found the infant wrapped in a piece of cloth, but no further information was received regarding the baby. Later, police checked CCTV footage of the locality.

"We received information on Saturday night regarding the infant. The police reached the spot and rushed the baby to a hospital. When we checked the CCTV footage of the area, the baby was found with a girl," a senior police officer said.

Police traced the girl and questioned her about the incident. The girl later revealed that she had been raped by a 60-year-old man who lived in her neighborhood. The girl didn't share any information about the incident with anyone as she was scared.

An officer privy to the case revealed, "We spoke to the girl's mother, who works as domestic help, and asked if she knew about the rape and the pregnancy. The mother told us that she had noticed some changes in her daughter's body and even asked her about it. But the girl never told her about the rape or her pregnancy."

A case was registered under various sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the accused, who is a shopkeeper, has been arrested on Nov 1 and was sent to jail.
