DELHI: Annabelle a brand based in New Zealand has started selling charpai (cot)
as 'Vintage Indian Daybed' on their website.
The brand has started selling it for NZD 800 which is Rs 41, 297 approximately.
Annabelle has described the Indian cot as "one of a kind" and "original". The original price was at NZD 1200 which is Rs 61,980 approximately in Indian currency. However, after a discount, the charpai is now available for a whopping Rs 41,297.
A charpai is a bedstead of woven webbing on a wooden frame on four legs. A traditional charpai is made out of a wooden frame and natural fiber ropes. However, these days you will also find charpais having metal frames and plastic tapes. A charpai or cot in India would cost you anything from Rs 800 to Rs 10,000.
Not only cot but many simple daily use products are being sold at an excessive price.
Earlier, Luxury Brand Balenciaga's has found itself as the new subject of jokes among Indian netizens after it dropped a new shopper bag on its website for a price of a whopping $2000. The price will amount to Rs. 1.5 lakhs in Indian currency. This has left the Indian netizens amused as the bag looks like a regular Indian 'thaili or 'jhola'. Netizens are now having a field day on the internet displaying their amusement at the uncanny resemblance and also at the absurdity of selling a regular carry bag for such a high price.
The bag has been called out by netizens not only in India but all over the world. Previously, luxury brand Gucci was in the news for selling a 'kurta' at an unreasonably insane price. Many Indian people shared screenshots of Gucci's website, where the price of these outfits was listed as $3,500. Shocked and surprised, people said that Gucci is selling a dress that bears a striking resemblance to the traditional Indian kurta and one of the Twitter users said that he will get the same thing for 500 bucks. He tweeted, "Gucci selling an Indian kurta for 2.5 lakhs? I'll get the same thing for 500 bucks."
