Chandigarh: The Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on April 16 has announced that 300 units of free electricity will be provided to every household across the state from July 1, 2022.
The Aam Aadmi Party who swept Punjab during last month's assembly elections has completed its first month in power in the border state and the decision was announced on this day to mark the occasion.
Earlier, AAP had promised to provide free electricity to every household for up to 300 units during the run-up to the Punjab Assembly polls.
The state has already been providing free power to the farmers, besides 200 free units to the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and BPL families.
The decision came days after Bhagwant Mann met Party Supremo Arvind Kejriwal on April 12 to discuss the rollout of the scheme. After the meeting concluded, the Punjab CM said that he will soon give "good news" to the people of the state.
"Had a wonderful meeting with our leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Very soon, will give good news to the people of Punjab," Mann wrote in his official Twitter handle.
Apart from this announcement, the AAP has also emphasized about its achievements during their month long tenure, which includes the likes of the launching of the anti-corruption helpline, which Mann initiated on March 23 and the martyrdom day of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
Meanwhile, the AAP has set its sight on expanding their footprints pan India and is eyeing to capture the opposition space from the Congress Party. They are presenting themselves as a viable alternative to the weakening Congress.
