All About Ganesh Chaturthi 2021: Rituals, Timings and More

Mumbai: The birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha is observed as Ganesh Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the God of new beginnings and the remover of obstacles.

Lord Ganesha is believed to mark things as auspicious and prosperous, and is also known as the son of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati. 

The states in which Ganesh Chaturthi is widely celebrated as Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka. In 2021, Ganesh Chaturthi comments on September 21 and will come to an end on September 21. Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day festival.

The first day of the festival marks the beginning of Ganesh Chaturthi with Pran Pratishtha. It is a ritual in which the consecration of the idol is performed in the temple. After this, the idol is worshipped by the devotees for 10 days.

The idol is immersed in a large water body on the last day of the festival with great pomp. The ritual of immersion of the Ganpati idol is called Ganpati Visarjan. This ritual marks the return of Lord Ganapati to his abode. 

Lord Ganesha is also known as Vinayaka and Vigneshwarar. This is because the devotees believe that praying to Lord Ganesha will bring an end to all the troubles. Therefore, Lord Ganesha is not known as the God of new beginnings and fresh starts.

The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is done on Chaturthi Tithi of Sukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada (August or September), according to the Hindu Panchang. In the whole period of the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi people visit temples early in the morning to offer prayers to the Lord.

The idol of Lord Ganesha is offered a Modak.
