NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in New Delhi on Monday to provide an update on the evolving situation in violence-hit Manipur and the flooding in Assam. Prime Minister Modi had recently returned to India after completing state visits to the United States and Egypt. Prior to Shah's briefing, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had met with Amit Shah and expressed that the state and central governments had successfully managed to control the violence to a significant extent.
Singh, who had arrived in the national capital from Imphal, tweeted about his meeting with Amit Shah, stating that he briefed the Home Minister about the ground situation in Manipur. He praised Amit Shah's close supervision, which had helped in curbing the violence over the past week. Singh mentioned that there had been no reported casualties since June 13 due to the violence. He further conveyed Amit Shah's assurance that the Union government would take all necessary steps to restore normalcy in Manipur. The Home Minister also emphasized the need to work towards achieving lasting peace and urged the cooperation of all stakeholders in Manipur to ensure peace prevails.
Singh was accompanied by BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Swaraj, Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, and Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh during his meeting with Amit Shah. Last week, Shah chaired an all-party meeting to discuss the situation in Manipur. The meeting lasted for three hours and was attended by 18 political parties, four MPs from the northeastern region, and two chief ministers.
During the meeting, Shah informed the attendees that Prime Minister Modi had been closely monitoring the situation in Manipur from the beginning and providing guidance with utmost sensitivity to find a resolution to the problem. He highlighted that the situation in Manipur was gradually returning to normal and emphasized that no casualties had been reported since June 13 in relation to the violence.
Shah sought the cooperation of all political parties in defusing the situation and restoring peace and trust among the various communities in Manipur at the earliest. The Home Minister's proactive approach and continuous monitoring of the situation reflected the government's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the violence-affected state.
The briefing between Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi aimed to ensure that the Prime Minister was fully informed about the situation in Manipur and the flooding in Assam. With the Home Minister's assurance and the combined efforts of the state and central governments, there are hopes that peace will be restored and normalcy will return to Manipur.
