GUWAHATI: An exceptionally talented Assamese swimmer named Astha Choudhury won gold at the 76th National Swimming Championship, securing a remarkable victory. In the 200 m butterfly event of the competition, which took place in Hyderabad, Astha gave an exceptional performance and confident performance.
She won first place on the podium thanks to her exceptional performance and unwavering confidence, bringing honour to Assam's swimming community as well as to herself.
Astha previously achieved exceptional success in May at the 2nd Speedo Invitational Long Course Meet 2023, when she won the 200-meter butterfly competition with a world-record time of 2.19.96 metres. Her status as a rising star in the field of national swimming is solidified by these successive victories. On May 20 and 21, 2023, the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai hosted the second Speedo Invitational Long Course Meet.
With her personal best time of 1.02.71 at the 47th Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championship held in Bangalore earlier in October 2022, Astha broke the 12-year senior national record previously held at 1.03.24 and the junior national record previously held at 1.04.66.
On the other hand, after being selected for the squad to play Bangladesh in the forthcoming series, Assam’s Uma Chetry has finally made it to the Indian Women's National Cricket Team.
The three-match T20 and ODI series against Bangladesh will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, and the squads were revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday. According to sources, Uma Chetry has been selected for the Harmanpreet Kaur-captained T20 and ODI squads.
Meanwhile, Assam’s Riyan Parag has been selected by the Junior Cricket Committee to play for India's "A" team in the upcoming Asian Cricket Council Men's Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023, which will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from July 13 to July 23.
Eight Asian countries will compete in the competition, which will be contested in a 50-over style.
