Patna: As soon as we think about National Highway, a clean, cool, and wide road hit our mind because a lot of time and a hefty amount are spent to make these Highways.
But what will you say when horrifying pictures showing numerous potholes on a highway come in front of you? Though, crores are spent to keep highways neat and clean, however, still such pictures surface. Now, why the highway condition is worse and why it is being not repaired on time, these questions should be left to concerned authorities.
The National Highway, we are talking about here, is NH 227 which passes through the Madhubani district of Bihar and the condition is as same as we discussed in the above para of this write-up.
However, during the regime of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state has witnessed better roads both in urban and rural areas. But the NH 227 seems to remain unattended for decades as some old books in a library.
The condition of the highway is so bad one can't decide whether there are potholes in the road or the road is in potholes. These days, the pictures of this Highway are becoming viral on social media after a view of the road that goes through Madhubani has been shot into an aerial view by Dainik Bhaskar newspaper's journo Praveen Thakur.
This journey of this 20 km begins with a jammed and broken road which has been constructed after spending nearly. Road condition contributes to traffic jams throughout the day.
From VVIPs to common people getting stuck in jams on this road every day, the situation is not changing. Everyone's vehicles dive into water-filled pits, but the situation is not changing. On the other hand, no special arrangements have been made on the highway regarding safety. Known as NH 227 L, this road holds the status of National Highway and it travels from Kaluahi to Basopatti via Harlakhi.
As per media reports, there are more than a hundred potholes on the National Highway number 227 L which increases the problems for the passengers, especially in the rainy season. Finding a road on NH 227 in Basopatti is as difficult as an MLA in his/her area after elections.
This road was built years ago and as per local people, its condition was fine in the 80-90s. When such an old road was converted into NH, people hoped that the development wheel will run smoothly, however, they are disheartened to see the present condition of the road.
This road in the Madhubani district of Bihar was earlier known as State Highway. Reportedly, in the year 2001, it was given the status of National Highway.
However, after this, many governments came but the condition of the Highway remained the same.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Prashant Kishore said, ''Reminiscent of the condition of roads in Bihar in the Jungle Raj of the 90s, this is National Highway 227 (L) of Madhubani district of Bihar. Recently, #Nitishkumar ji was speaking to the people of the road construction department in a program that they should tell everyone about the good condition of roads in Bihar.''
