Kolkata: The Bengal BJP on Wednesday demanded the arrest of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, for her controversial remarks on Goddess Kali.
The saffron party also threatened to approach the court if no measure is initiated against her within 10 days.
"Goddess Kali is never worshipped as a goddess who consumes alcohol and meat as per norms of the Sanatan Hindu dharma. Her comments have hurt religious sentiments. We demand her arrest in the light of the statement against Goddess Kali," BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said.
Moitra, on Tuesday, sparked a row at a conclave by saying that she had every right as an individual to imagine Goddess Kali as a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess, as each person has had his/her unique way of worshipping deities.
She said this while responding to the latest outrage over a film poster that showed a woman dressed as a Goddess Kali smoking a cigarette and holding a pride flag.
After this BJP slammed Moitra and filed a complaint against her in the capital Kolkata.
As per BJP, Mitra has deliberately made a statement about religion and religious belief with the intention of insulting Maa Kali.
Meanwhile, TMC has distanced itself from Moitra's statement following which she has unfollowed TMC on Twitter.
