Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday
declined to grant an interim bail application to the Republic TV
Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.
The bail plea was filed today before the sessions court at Alibag in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
According to media reports, Bombay High Court said that Goswami can request for regular bail from a lower court, and the concerned court shall rule on the appeal within the time limit specified (4 days). There is no exceptional reason for Bombay HC to interfere in the present interim application.
"Any observations made by us in the present interim application will not affect the hearing of the bail application filed before the Sessions Court," the Bombay HC said.
Goswami was arrested by
Mumbai police on November 4 in connection with a 2018 abetment to a suicide
case of architect-interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother over alleged
non-payment of dues by companies of the accused.
The police also arrested Feroze Shaikh and Nitish Sarda on the same day in connection with the same case.
Goswami, Feroze Shaikh, and Nitish Sarda were remanded in judicial custody by the magistrate's court till November 18.
Goswami was in judicial custody at Alibag quarantine centre and on Sunday he was shifted to the Taloja jail in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
