BENGALURU: As the Congress party wins multiple seats and leads in several others in the Karnataka elections, the previous chief minister of the state accepted defeat and mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party has “not been able to make the mark” in the state.

The counting of votes began on the morning of Saturday and the congress party has been able to manage a massive lead since the very beginning. Till 2 PM on Saturday, Congress had won 10 seats while maintaining a lead on 124 more. While the Bharatiya Janata Party had won 1 seat with a lead in 61 more. Janata Dal (S) has also won a seat while maintaining a lead in 21 more.

Accepting the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party to perform in the Karnataka state assembly, Basavaraj Bommai mentioned, “Once the results come we will do a detailed analysis. As a national party, we will not only analyse but also see what deficiencies and gaps were left at various levels. We take this result in our stride.”

Meanwhile, All India Congress Committee President Malikarjun Kharge termed the Karnataka Assembly polls as the victory of the people. "People themselves have got up and supported us, they have voted for us furiously against the bad administration. This shows voters of Karnataka are awakened. Despite the Prime Minister, Home Minister, dozens of Ministers, Chief Ministers of other states camping here, and despite manpower, money and muscle being used, people have unitedly voted for Congress," he said. The party has however not chosen anyone as the chief ministerial candidate yet.

The voting process for the Karnataka Assembly was carried out in a single phase on Wednesday and saw a 73.19 per cent turnout of voters. Counting began early in the morning and is expected to get over by evening.
