LUCKNOW: According to reports, eight people were killed overall and 11 have been saved so far after the roof of a potato cold storage fell in the Chandausi neighborhood of Sambhal, UP.
Rescue efforts are being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams.
According to Moradabad DIG Shalabh Mathur, eight individuals were killed in the event.
"Eleven people have been saved, while a total of eight people have died. There are still some folks missing. The building has a basement, and we're attempting to go there," he said.
Sambhal DM Manish Bansal reported that sniffer dogs are being used by the authorities to look for anyone who may be trapped among the rubble.
"Sniffer dogs are being used by the NDRF to look for the trapped individuals. This morning, we have strengthened our troops. More NDRF and SDRF teams will visit in the morning," he added.
Chakresh Mishra, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sambhal, stated that a FIR has been filed against the owner. “An FIR was filed against the owner and the other two parties. We have four people in custody who will be questioned. The primary suspects are gone and being looked for. Once the debris is cleared, we will be able to determine the true cause of this building's collapse," he explained.
According to the officials, the event took place on Thursday at about 11.30 a.m. According to earlier reports, the godown was already in poor shape. Ankur and Rohit Agarwal were the owners, as per the officials.
Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal are the two defendants who have been charged under Section 304.
"The defendants are both the owners of the land where the incident occurred. An investigation at the ADM level has also been done in this case”, stated the DIG.
The portion of the cold storage that fell was built in the past, and it wasn't built in accordance with established criteria.
