Guwahati: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a coronavirus COVID-19 quarantine facility at Indiabulls at Kob Village in Panvel on July 16.

The victim lodged a complaint at Panvel Taluka Police Station and the accused, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested. He has tested positive for Covid-19.

It has been reported that the woman is a suspected Covid-19 carrier and has tested negative as of now.

It is to be mentioned that the accused and the woman were seeing each other for some time. While visiting the quarantine centre, the accused tried to take advantage of her on the pretext of extending some help

Earlier the accused's brother was in the same quarantine centre and the and the accused used to visit the facility frequently.

Notably, he met this woman at the centre and asked her if she needed anything. He had developed a sort of intimacy with her by offering help.

He tried to take advantage of this intimacy and committed the heinous act on July 16, officials reported.

"The accused is arrested and he has tested positive today. We are keeping him under guard", a senior officer stated.
