Covid Caller Tune: Petition Filed to Remove Amitabh Bachchan's Voice

New Delhi: A PIL seeking removal of megastar Amitabh Bachchan's voice from the covid caller tune has come to the news.

According to reports, Delhi resident and social worker has filed a petition in Delhi High Court complaining about the continued usage of Bachchan's voice for spreading awareness regarding corona when he himself tested positive with the virus.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed by Rakesh through advocates A K Duvey and Pawan Kumar. 

Notably, Rakesh said in his petition that the government of India has been engaging and even paying money to Amitabh Bachchan for lending his voice to the caller tune which is played whenever a phone call is connected. While the veteran actor and most of his family members tested positive for the virus last year and were even hospitalised, Rakesh stated that it is inappropriate to continue using his voice for the purpose of spreading awareness.

His plea read, "The government of India has been paying fees to Amitabh Bachchan for chanting preventive measures on the caller ringtone."

Meanwhile, Rakesh added that for the same purpose various other covid warriors could be engaged as many of them have been doing commendable services in light of the covid pandemic.

"There are some corona warriors who have been doing great service to the nation and helping poor and needy people in these times as well as providing them food, cloth and shelter and it is very indispensable to mention herein that some corona warriors have distributed their hard earnings among the poor," Rakesh wrote in his plea.

While Amitabh Bachchan has neither a clean history nor any record of serving the nation as a social worker, Rakesh mentioned that many covid warriors are in fact ready to serve the nation in these stressful times without expecting any payment.

As per reports, the plea came up for hearing on Thursday before a Delhi High Court bench consisting of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh.

However, the bench has listed the plea for January 18 as the counsel of the petitioner stated inability to attend the hearing physically.
