NEW DELHI: Taking note of the abusive behaviour towards Shubman Gill’s sister on social media, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women said that proper action will be taken in this regard and the perpetrators will be punished for their crimes. The trolling and threatening took place after the match between Indian Premier League match between Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

Swati Maliwal, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, took note of the incident. Sharing a few screenshots of the comments made on social media, she tweeted, “Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing Shubman Gill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing Virat Kohli’s daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well. This shall not be tolerated!”

The incident took place post Royal Challengers Bangalore’s defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill’s sister had posted a picture of herself after the match on her Instagram account along with the caption, “What a wholesum day.” A large number of people engaged in trolling her in the comments section. Some even engaged in issuing threats of sexual violence against her over Instagram as well as Twitter.

The opening batter of the Indian Men’s cricket team, Shubman Gill was also targeted by online trolls after Gujarat Titans booked an important win over Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. Shubman Gill, who overshadowed the massive hit by Virat Kohli with his massive knock to ensure GT's six-wicket win over RCB further made sure to knock Bangalore out of the playoff race. The Indian batter opened for the Gujarat Titans and scored a massive unbeaten knock of 104 runs from 52 balls in the match held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
