New Delhi: Delhi Police head constable, Seema Dhaka, has worked continuously for the last three months to trace and reunite the 76 missing children with their families.

The 33-year-old head constable has not taken even a day off in the last three months.

Dhaka, who is now promoted to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was awarded for her heroic feat an out-of-turn promotion under a new initiative that promises quick promotions to constables and head constables especially for tracing missing children.

Some of these children had developed a natural bond with her during the train journey and a few of them wept when they were returned back to their family, said Dhaka.

As she is a mother herself, she felt comfortable to bond with the lost kids.

"I could feel what the children felt on being separated from their parents, what the parents felt on losing their children. That motivated me to work harder," she added.

She recalls about a child who did not want to go back to his stepfather after travelling on a boat in flood-hit areas of Bengal.

Dhaka had even tested COVID positive during her many quests in search of lost children and had to be isolated for three weeks in July.

Delhi police spokesperson, Eish Singhal said that Dhaka was able to trace 76 children back to native places like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The Delhi police have traced 1,440 missing children since August 7. In 2019, of the 5,412 children who were reported missing, 61.64% of them were successfully traced.

According to the incentives announced, constables and head constables who can trace 50 or more missing children in 12 months are eligible for the out-of-turn promotion.
