New Delhi- Delhi on Wednesday reported the highest ever spike in the COVID 19 cases with 17,282 fresh infections. The total tally of caseloads in Delhi now amounts to 767,438 cases, as per the reports from the officials.
The national capital of India reported the highest ever cases recorded in a single day after breaking its own record of previous daily spikes.
104 cases of deaths have been reported from the national capital in the last 24 hours taking the total caseloads of fatalities to 11,540, as per the health bulletin. The single-day highest spike in the COVID cases has taken the total tally of active cases to 50,736, breaking its previous record of 43,510 recorded a day earlier.
The positivity rate in Delhi also showed a steep rise to 15.92 % as compared to 13.14 % recorded a day earlier.
The authorities increased the speed of testing by conducting 64,544 RT-PCR tests and 37,916 Rapid antigen tests with a total of 102,460 tests conducted on Wednesday.
It has been reported that the high number of fatalities is overburdening the resources of the crematoriums and burial grounds in the national capital.
New Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal remarked to the COVID 19 situation as "worrisome" and urged people only to leave their homes if it is urgent.
Kejriwal last month warned the people that Delhi is witnessing the fourth wave of COVID even as the country is going through the second wave of the pandemic. He also added that imposing a statewide lockdown was not an option to curb the spread of the disease but stricter restrictions will take place.
Health minister Satyendar Jain early on Thursday said that the coronavirus cases are on the rise with every passing day without any signs of slowing down in the national capital. He also urged everybody to follow Covid-19 appropriate behavior to combat the disease. He also assured that the number of beds has been increased in the hospitals and requested the centre for its assistance in doing so.
