New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a two-month-old girl child was found inside a microwave oven at her residence in South Delhi on Monday afternoon.
It is suspected that child's mother may have killed her daughter as a result of which she has been summoned for questioning.
The body of the girl which was wrapped in a cloth was recovered from the oven and then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by family members.
The police received a call regarding the incident at about 4:30 pm.
"We received a call that an infant was missing. Staff from Malviya Nagar police station rushed to the spot. Neighbours then informed us that they found the girl in an old oven. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained. We are questioning the mother and other family members to ascertain the facts and sequence of events," DCP (South) Benita Mary Jaiker said.
The child's father and other family members were at their departmental store near the house at the time of the incident and they alleged that the mother was heard allegedly bashing up her elder child, a four-year-old boy, at around 3 pm.
Following this, the family members immediately rushed upstairs to stop her assault but she locked herself and her son in the room.
According to a family member, they later broke the door only to find the woman lying unconscious and rushed her to the hospital. Meanwhile, they realized that the infant girl was missing and got afraid after the woman refused to speak about the child.
Speaking to the media, the baby's grandfather alleged, "I was sleeping downstairs when I heard noises. I was told that the baby was missing. We all searched nearby houses and lanes, checked tanks and rooms… After some time, a few boys went to the terrace and opened a room there. They found the baby's body stashed in an old oven… she was dead. We think her mother killed her as she was the only one at home. She was unhappy with the baby…"
