NEW DELHI: According to Delhi Police, a student at Delhi University was fatally stabbed on June 18 after complaining about the harassment of his "girlfriend" by another student.

Nikhil Chauhan, 19, a first-year student of BA (Hons) Political Science at DU's School of Open Learning (SOL), has been identified as dead. Around noon, the incident happened outside Aryabhatta College in South Campus.

According to a police preliminary inquiry, a brawl erupted last week between Nikhil and the other miscreants following a disagreement involving the girl. On Sunday, four young people arrived on motorcycles, surrounded Nikhil, and fatally stabbed him in the chest.

According to reports that the police have so far detained two persons, among them a school dropout. Rahul, a first-year BA student, was the first person caught; Haroon, a school dropout, was the second.

The parents and two brothers of Nikhil, who reside in the Paschim Vihar neighbourhood in West Delhi, are still alive. In addition to working towards his college degree, Nikhil also worked as a part-time model. His family claimed that he had taken part in numerous acting and modelling contests held all around the city.

Nikhil’s father while speaking to the media said that, “We have received no information from the police thus far. Up until now, we have not spoken with the police. I was contacted by the students who had taken my son to the hospital yesterday at 12 p.m. Police had kept these students at the station all night.”

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Manoj C said ,” One of the college SoL students acted inappropriately with Nikhil's girlfriend about seven days ago. On June 18, the accused met Nikhil outside the entrance of Aryabhatta College with three other people, then stabbed him in the chest.”

The event happened on the same day that two sisters were allegedly shot dead in R K Puram in southwest Delhi by a group of gunmen after a dispute over a loan their brother had provided.

Saurabh Bharadwaj, the health minister for Delhi and a legislator for the Aam Aadmi Party, made fun of the law and order situation in the capital city under the Lieutenant Governor.
