Delhi's G20 Summit Prep: Temporary Ban on Food and Commercial Deliveries

NEW DELHI: Delhi is gearing up to host the prestigious G20 Summit, a global congregation of leaders set to convene on September 9th and 10th at Pragati Maidan. In anticipation of this momentous event, the city has announced a series of temporary restrictions, one of which pertains to the suspension of food delivery and other commercial delivery services from September 8th to 10th. It's imperative to clarify that these measures do not constitute a complete lockdown, despite some misconceptions.

Leading up to the G-20 Summit, the government has outlined a brief hiatus on commercial deliveries and cloud kitchens specifically within the NDMC area in Delhi. This means that prominent food delivery platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto, among others, will be prohibited from operating during this period. Moreover, commercial deliveries by companies such as Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra will also be temporarily suspended.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), SS Yadav, emphasized that although commercial deliveries will face restrictions, essential services will continue without interruption. This includes the seamless operation of medical services, encompassing the movement of ambulances, pathology lab services, sample collection, and more. Additionally, postal services will remain unaffected.

In essence, Delhi will not be subjected to a complete lockdown from September 8th to 10th. The official Twitter account of Delhi Police reassured residents, urging them not to panic. They clarified that the city is not under lockdown and encouraged residents to stay informed about traffic updates through @dtpftraffic's Virtual Help Desk.

In a related development, September 8th, 9th, and 10th have been designated as public holidays in Delhi. The government has also issued directives for owners of shops and businesses to grant paid leave to their employees and workers in light of the Summit. Furthermore, the police have advised companies based in Gurugram to enable their employees to work from home on September 8th, a Friday. To ensure the smooth conduct of the Summit, some traffic restrictions will be in effect from midnight on September 7th until September 10th.

Delhi's preparations for the G20 Summit include temporary restrictions on food and commercial deliveries, but these measures do not amount to a full-scale lockdown. Essential services will continue to operate, and residents are urged to stay updated on traffic information to navigate the city efficiently during this period.
