New Delhi: An eagle tagged with a tracking device collared around his neck was found dead on the lawns of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on the evening of May 30 and it has led to a security scare among Delhi Police personnel and central intelligence agencies.

As per reports, the dead eagle lying on the lawn grabbed the attention of the security guards who were deployed at the Presidential Palace. They found the satellite tracking device attached to the bird after having a closer look at it. Thereafter, the information was passed on to senior officials.

An enquiry followed thereafter where it was found that Mumbai-based officials involved in wildlife conservation had attached the device to the bird in an effort to track its movement and extract information about its resting places, speed, and food.

The eagle was found in the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and strong wind which lashed several parts of Delhi.

A senior police officer said that the security agencies found the eagle on the lawn at 4.45 pm and went to pick it up after the rain stopped. The security personnel were taken aback by finding a satellite tracking device attached to it and immediately flashed a message to the control room.

Officials of intelligence agencies, the security wing of Delhi Police and a special cell were informed. "They scanned the device and found a note, mentioning the Mumbai-based officials, and asked a team to verify the same," the officer said, adding that nothing suspicious was found.
