New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Monday raided the house of Delhi Health Minister Minister Satyendar Jain in connection with hawala transactions involving a Kolkata-based company.
As per reports, the ED team reached the minister's house at around seven in the morning.
Satyendra Jain, who was arrested on May 30 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is currently in ED custody till June 9.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has given a big blow to the minister as it has banned the presence of his lawyer during the interrogation of the ED.
Earlier, a special court had given its approval in this regard, but the High Court rejected it.
''During the ED's interrogation of the minister in the case of hawala transactions related to a Kolkata-based company, none of his lawyers will accompany him,'' the court said.
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has sent Satyendra Jain to ED custody till June 9 in the money laundering case. The court, on the request of Jain's counsel, allowed the lawyer to be present during the custodial interrogation and said that he could see the process of interrogation from a distance, but could not hear.
The investigation of the central agency is based on a 2017 case of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), wherein, it was alleged that the AAP leader and his wife Poonam Jain had acquired disproportionate assets of Rs 1.47 crore between February 2015 and May 2017, which is more than double of their known sources of income.
