Elon Musk Responds To Rumours About Starlink's Entry In India

New Delhi: SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, has recently confirmed his intention to bring  Starlink satellite Internet to India. 

Started by SpaceX, Starlink provides internet to its users at lower latency by using a constellation of satellites. It launched its first two satellites in February 2018. Of late, it provides its service to 14 locations which include Australia, Chile, UK and the US.

The SpaceX founder hinted at bringing Starlink to India in a reply to a Twitter post. On being asked about when Starlink will begin its services in India by OnsetDigital on Twitter, Musk replied, "Just figuring out the regulatory approval process."

The users of Starlink are able to access the Internet with the help of SpaceX's mini-satellites. In the locations that it is currently serviceable, it is currently in beta mode with no download limit. The internet speed ranges from 50Mbps to 150Mbps. In many locations, the latency of the internet ranges between 20ms to 40ms.

The mini-satellited of SpaceX that Starlink uses are positioned in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Compared to traditional satellites, these mini-satellites are 60 times closer to Earth and are hence able to provide Internet at lower latency.

A regular Starlink kit includes a Starlink dish, a Wi-Fi router, power supply, cables, and a mounting tripod. It also requires a clear view of the sky to connect. For the setup and monitoring process, the app is downloadable on iOS and Android devices.
