Everyone Will Be Infected With Omicron As Booster Dose Won't Stop It: Medical Expert

New Delhi: Amid rising cases of COVID-19 variant omicron in the country, another news has come to the fore which claimed that the virus is unstoppable and everyone will be infected with it.

While speaking to NDTV, Dr. Jaiprakash Muliyil, epidemiologist and chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Epidemiology at the Indian Council of Medical Research, claimed that booster vaccine doses won't stop the rapid spread of the virus.

He further said that the booster dose will make no difference.

''The infection will occur. It has occurred all over the world regardless of this (Booster doses),'' he added.

However, he also stressed that COVID-19 is not a frightening disease anymore and the new variant is milder as compared to the Delta variant and practically unstoppable.

''The new strain is milder and is leading to much less hospitalization and we can deal with it,'' he said.

He further claimed that natural immunity through infection could be lifelong and i.e. why India has not been as badly affected as many other countries.

He also pointed out that no medical bodies suggested booster doses and said doses will not stop the natural progression of the epidemic.

When asked why we have assumed that only 60 plus individuals have comorbidities in this country and why can't 40 plus individuals have comorbidities, and hence, why aren't they being given the precautionary dose, he said that precautionary dose is given for people with a high risk of "immunological non response".
