Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram Back After 6 Hours Of Global Outage

New Delhi: On Monday night, the digital world seemed like it had come to a standstill after the three giant social media platforms owned by Facebook went down for more than 6 hours.

The services of social media platforms Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram had been disrupted after a suspected global outage and technical failure at about 9 pm (IST) on Monday.

Facebook soon acknowledged the outage on Twitter after many users complained about not being able to use the social media platforms.

The chief technology officer of Facebook, Mike Schroepfer, apologised and tweeted, "We are experiencing networks issues and teams are working as fast as possible to debug and restore as fast as possible."

About more than a billion users were affected by the outage which is said to be one of the longest outages in the history of Facebook.

According to Dane Knecht, who is the senior vice president of Cloudfare, Facebook had reportedly face a 'technical glitch' in its border gateway protocol (BGP) routes.

As a result, the internal tools of the company also dealt with outages due to DNS routing problems. 

Thankfully, the issue was resolved and Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram soon came back online after more than 6 hours of missing in action.

Mark Zuckerberg also apologized for the glitch and said, "Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Messenger are coming back online now. Sorry for the disruption today - I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about."
