NEW DELHI: In an astonishing incident, shots were reported to have been fired in the premises of the Tis Hazari Court in Delhi on Wednesday.
Notably, bullets were fired by a man dressed in the attire of a lawyer in Delhi's Tis Hazari Court premises purportedly over an argument among lawyers, police said. A scuffle over parking is said to have sparked the firing incident. The shots were reportedly fired in the air and no one was said to have been injured.
A purported video from the incident doing the rounds contains the visuals of a man in a lawyer's attire using a pistol or similar weapon to fire shots in the air even as a couple of men dressed similarly appeared to pelt stones at someone who is out of the frame of the video.
The authenticity of the clip could not be verified by the police immediately.
The firing incident reportedly occurred at around 1.35pm within the court premises, located under the jurisdiction of Subzi Mandi Police Station.
DCP North Sagar Singh Kalsi, said that an argument between two different groups of lawyers, including office bearers of Tis Hazari Court, escalated to the point when one of them allegedly shot in the air with a gun.
Kalsi mentioned that the situation is now normal and legal action is being initiated against the perpetrators of the incident.
"A firing incident took place around 1.35 pm on Wednesday in Tis Hazari court. When police reached the spot, it was learned that two different groups of lawyers, including office bearers, had allegedly shot in the air and no one was injured," Kalsi said in a statement
Delhi Police officials said that the incident occurred due to an argument among lawyers over some issue, which was being determined.
Police were reportedly present at the spot to investigate, said officials.
Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi KK Manan came down heavily on the firing incident on Tis Hazari Court premises.
He assured that a detailed inquiry into the matter will be undertaken. It will also be inquired whether the weapons used in the incident were licensed or not. “Even if the weapons were licensed, no lawyer or anyone else can use them like this inside or around court premises,” he said.
