New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday green hydrogen-based advanced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), Toyota Mirai
During the launch event, the minister said that it aims to create an ecosystem for such vehicles which is a first of its kind in India.
''FCEV, powered by hydrogen, is one of the best zero-emission solutions,'' he added.
He further said that the vehicle is completely environmentally - friendly with no tailpipe emissions other than water, adding, ''Green hydrogen can be generated from renewable energy and biomass which is available in abundance.''
Gadkari also noted that the introduction and adoption of technology to tap into the potential of green hydrogen will play an instrumental role in securing a clean and affordable future for energy in India.
A pilot project is being conducted by Toyota Kirloskar Motor along with the International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in order to study and assess the world's most advanced FCEV Toyota Mirai, which runs on hydrogen, on Indian roads and climatic conditions.
Apart from Gadkari, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Power Minister R K Singh and Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey were also present at the event.
The Union Minister also shared some pictures of the event on his official Twitter handle.
