Gandhi Jayanti 2020: As a gesture of goodwill, India gifts 41 ambulances & 6 school buses to Nepal

Kathmandu: India gifted 41 ambulances and 6 school buses to government and not-for-profit organizations in 30 districts across Nepal on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 151st birth anniversary.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal said that it is continuing a long-standing tradition of support for its neighboring country. The vehicles were provided to organizations working in the field of health and education, spread across 30 districts of Nepal.

"The Embassy, continuing the tradition of gifting of ambulances and school buses, handed over forty-one ambulances and six school buses to various governmental and non-governmental, not for profit organizations working in the field of health and education. These organizations are spread across 30 districts of Nepal, including remote districts. The Embassy has a long-standing tradition of gifting ambulances and school buses to government and not for profit institutions every year to support grassroots medical access," the embassy wrote in a statement.

Celebrating Bapu's birthday, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra paid floral tribute to the great freedom fighter at his statue situated in the Embassy premises in Kathmandu.

Including the ambulances gifted today, the number of such vehicles gifted by India to its neighbor since 1994 stands at 823. This year, the Indian Embassy has gifted three kinds of ambulances to Nepal: Advanced Life Support category, Basic Life Support, and Common Life Support ambulances. All three categories are built as per the guidelines of the Government of Nepal.

The Advanced Life Support category ambulances include equipment such as traveling ventilator, ECG and Oxygen monitor, automated external defibrillator, nebulizer set, BP apparatus, stethoscope, Ambu bag, various tubes, and catheters, wheelchair and stretcher, radio communication equipment and 4G mobile device, etc. The Basic Life Support ambulances have all these items, except for traveling ventilator. The Common Life Support ambulances are 4 Wheel Drive vehicles and best suited for hilly and mountainous terrains.

Additionally, 160 school buses have been gifted across Nepal as a gesture of goodwill. Today, the Embassy gifted six school buses to educational institutions located in six districts of Nepal.
