Ghulam Nabi Azad Quits Congress, Attacks Rahul Gandhi In Resignation Letter

New Delhi: In another jolt to the Congress, senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Friday resigned from all the posts of the party, including the primary membership.

Notably, he was very upset with the party for a long time and a few days back, Azad resigned from the party's campaign committee in Kashmir.

In his resignation addressed to party interim president Sonia Gandhi, Azad slammed Rahul Gandhi and said that party was performing well under Sonia. But as Rahul Gandhi entered the party, especially after 2013 when he was appointed as the vice-president, he destroyed the entire party.

He further wrote that all senior and experienced leaders were sidelined and inexperienced leaders started looking after the affairs of the party.

Besides this, Azad also mentioned joining the Congress and wrote that during his student life he was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose, and other freedom fighters.

He also mentioned that in 1975-76, on the request of Sanjay Gandhi, he took over as the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Youth Congress, adding, I served the party for decades without any selfishness.''

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had appointed former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as the head of the party's campaign committee in the union territory a few days ago, but Azad had resigned, turning down the offer. Significantly, Azad was not sent to the Upper House again after retiring from the Rajya Sabha.

He also said that the entire organizational election process is a farce and a sham. At no place anywhere in the country have elections been held at any level of the organization.

''Handpicked lieutenants of the AICC have been coerced to sign on lists prepared by the coterie that runs the AICC sitting in 24 Akbar Road,'' he added.
