Gods Don't Belong To Upper Caste, Says JNU VC

Pandit further stated that no gods belonged to the Brahmin caste and that the highest could probably be Kshatriyas anthropologically.

New Delhi: In the course of the country observing violence pertaining to caste positions, Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, JNU Vice-Chancellor, has sparked a controversy with her statement that gods do not belong to the Brahmin caste.

Talking about the recent incident of the recent nine-year-old Dalit boy who was killed barbarically, the Vice-Chancellor further in her chain of lectures stated, ''No gods belonged to the Brahmin caste and that the highest could probably be Kshatriyas anthropologically.''

She further mentioned that Lord Shiva very likely belonged to the scheduled caste or scheduled tribe, adding that he takes his seat in a graveyard with a snake having a scarcity of clothes to wear.

While delivering her words as part of the Dr. B R Ambedkar Lecture Series entitled "Dr. B R Ambedkar's Thoughts on Gender Justice: Decoding the Uniform Civil Code", the Vice Chancellor also said that the Manusmriti's viewpoint on women is highly regressive, which portrays that all women originated in the shudra category and could not claim themselves to be of Brahmin genesis.

''It is only through marriage that they (women) could acquire their husband's caste is extremely regressive,'' she added.

Pandit also discussed Hinduism which she believes is not a religion but a way of life, adding, ''Gautam Buddha was one of the first to awaken on the discrimination rooted and formed in the society."

Additionally, Pandit also applauded the views of Dr. B R Ambedkar and promoted the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.

Pandit uttered that it is extremely inhuman to continue this discrimination and that it is a requisite for reevaluating the thoughts of Babasaheb.
