NEW DELHI: On February 14, also known as Valentine's Day, the Animal Welfare Board of India, a governmental organisation, has asked people to celebrate "Cow Hug Day." "Everyone is aware that the cow represents livestock riches and biodiversity is essential to Indian culture and rural economy, and nourishes human life. Because of its nurturing qualities akin to that of a mother, the giver of all, offering wealth to humanity, it is known as "Kamdhenu" and "Gaumata," the Animal Welfare Board stated in a statement.
Hugging cows, according to the Animal Welfare Board, will boost "individual and social happiness" and bring about emotional richness because of its many advantages. The statement said, "Therefore, all cow lovers may also observe February 14 as Cow Hug Day bearing in mind the significance of mother cows and creating a happy and good energy-filled life.
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairyin directed the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to address this matter with the consent of the appropriate authority. The government organization's call for everyone to observe "Cow Hug Day" on Valentine's Day also caused a flurry of activity on Twitter. On "Cow Hug Day," a number of individuals shared amusing memes and videos on social media.
However, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) withdrew its call to recognise February 14 as "Cow Hug Day" on Friday in the wake of widespread criticism. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14 all across the world. "As directed by the competent authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the appeal issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India for the celebration of Cow Hug Day on February 14 stands withdrawn," the board's secretary, S.K. Dutta, stated in a notice.
According to sources, The appeal stated that it was given with the agreement of a "competent authority" and "on the direction of the Union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying." AWBI secretary SK Dutta signed the document.
It was basically an appeal to cow lovers, according to AWBI assistant secretary Prachi Jain. Due to a lack of time this year, we have not planned any special events for it on the occasion. But starting the following year, the Board might organize some events.
