Bengaluru: Boys have been allegedly forced to wear saffron scarf by Hindu groups in pre-university college classrooms in Udupi on 4 February. This comes amidst the ongoing hijab row which has been raging on in Karnataka.

The incident was reported from the Government Pre-University College in Byndoor town in Udupi district.

As per reports, this incident occurred after Muslim girls in the college removed their hijabs before entering the campus.

However, the principal did not permit Hindu outfits to enforce a 'saffron scarf campaign' inside the campus and intervened in the matter.

Surender Koteshwar, the Bajrang Dal district secretary, reacted to the incident by saying that if the police are restricting Hindu students from entering colleges just because they have put on a saffron scarf, then likewise the police department also should not permit Muslim students who are wearing hijabs from entering colleges.

The Bajrang Dal district secretary added that they would make all Hindu students put on saffron scarf inside the campus if at all the college administration permitted students wearing the hijab to enter the campus.

Saira Banu, a student of the college, responded to the events by saying that the hijab is part of their life and she also added that her family members had put on their hijab while attending their colleges.

She questioned why this rule was enforced suddenly out of nowhere.

"What harm does it do to others if we wear hijab and enter college? When we ask this question, they do not answer the question. They instruct us to speak with the government. Is it possible for us to speak to the government," she asked.

She also said that these were all instructed by the principal. She informed that the principal, when questioned, instructed the students to speak to the head of the institution.

Saira Banu has also alleged that the students have been unable to speak to the head of the institution. The students do not have their contact details and no one is supporting them.
