Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Eatala Rajender won the Huzurabad bypoll in Telangana with a marging of about 23,855 votes.
He defeated his nearest rival Gellu Srinivas Yadav from TRS by 23,855 votes.
This election took place following the Eatala Rajender's resignation. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had removed Eatala Rajender from the state cabinet following allegations of land grabbing.
Miffed over this, Eatala Rajender resigned and joined BJP. He was fielded and easily grabbed the seat, which is considered a TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) stronghold. Eatala was representing this seat since 2009.
As per the Election Commission, the BJP got 1,06,780 votes compared to 82,712 votes by TRS and 3,012 votes by Congress.
The counting of the votes was held in 22 rounds which began at SRR Government Degree College in Karimnagar.
While congratulating Eatala, the Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said that despite the TRS misusing the state government machinery, people are standing with the right candidate and the right party.
Meanwhile, taking full responsibility for the defeat, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Anumula Revanth said that he will lead the party in their fight against the TRS government's misrule and fight for people's causes.
