The Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR) Drone Response and Outreach in North East (i-Drone) pilot project took its first flight, which was the longest ever by a drone in India.

Following Mokokchung, this initiative was started in Tuensang on Saturday. The ICMR and the state government, according to Nagaland's Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, have created a new chapter in the history of public health practises. ".@ICMRDELHI opens a new chapter in the history of public health practises in conjunction with the Nagaland government," he said. From Mokokchung to Tuensang, a distance of 40 kilometres, 3525 medical supplies were delivered in 28 minutes, making it the longest flight by a drone carrying pharmaceuticals in India." According to the DIPR, the ICMR programme was formally inaugurated at the [arade ground with the support of DEF Tuensang, in collaboration with the state health authorities.

The purpose of the pilot study is to explore if drone technology can transport Covid-19 samples from Mokokchung to Tuensang, where RT-PCR testing is not possible.

In around 28 minutes, the drone travelled from Mokokchung to Tuensang, carrying roughly 3000 units of medical supplies. Over 7000 items of medical supplies were sent to Nagaland as a consequence of this operation, according to the i-Drone project team.
